Early Years Foundation Stage

Explore the cornerstones of our childcare services that make us a trusted choice.
We prioritize creating a home-like and educational environment for every child by following the EYFS

EYFS Framework

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from birth to 5 years old.
All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, daycares, nurseries and school reception classes.

The revised framework was introduced in September 2012 with further changes taking effect from September 2014, 2021 & 2025
Its aim is to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to learn and develop through high quality play experiences allowing them to be inquisitive, imaginative and experimental empowering them to lead their own play and learning.
Play is essential for children development, children learn through play which helps them to grow in confidence, support decision making and understanding and overcoming problems.

We provide a balance of child and adult initiated purposeful activities taking into account children’s interests and developmental stages.

The EYFS is separated into 7 key areas.

The 3 prime areas are :-

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We ensure that children feel secure, valued and eager to learn, whilst developing respect for others and an understanding of appropriate behaviour.
  • Physical Development
We encourage young children to be active and interactive; helping to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement and as they get older, aware of their own self care encouraging independence. We also teach children to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy food choices.
  • Communication & Language
Children learn to be good communicators and staff lay down early skills for them to become confident writers, thinkers and readers by providing good role modelling and lots of opportunities to talk and hear language through storytelling and song as well as resources to explore early mark making.

    The 4 specific areas are:-

  • Mathematics
We encourage children learn to use maths in a practical way; they work things out by using shapes, counting and measuring.
  • Understanding the World
We  help children to make sense of the world by investigating and exploring and supporting pretend play.
  • Literacy
Children are encouraged to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. The Day care offers children access to an extensive range of reading materials and enthusiastic staff to foster interest in the written word/books from a young age.
  • Expressive Arts and Design
By providing resources which allow children to explore using different materials and media they can express their original ideas through activities such as messy play, music and movement and role play.

Personalised Care

The Goldilocks of childcare in central Oxted, not too big and not too small, simply just right to tailor educational programs to cater to each child's individual needs for their stage of development.

Qualified & dedicated Staff

Experienced caregivers dedicated to nurturing and educating every child. We work closely with our families to ensure happy transitions into our setting. I’m so privileged to work with an amazing team. Their positive and friendly outlook makes our setting a fun and relaxed environment for a healthy wellbeing for all.  This is a happy house, full of fun, laughter and lots of learning together.

Safe Environment

A home-like space that ensures your child's comfort and security. Our free flow spaces are designed for children to have access to two playrooms & the garden throughout their day. Our unique setting gives us lots of daylight to appreciate our natural surroundings and privacy as we play and explore.

Learning together

We're all friends here. The children thrive off their personal relationships with each other, as they learn through play. Learning to show empathy, respect and kindness to each other is an integral part of our day.

Sensory Play

Learning through sensory play  with different textures, colours & sounds. Whilst pouring & posting into containers, pots & pans children practice hand eye co-ordination, to be inquisitive whilst having fun!

Funding & Fees

Thank you for choosing my setting for your childcare.  My team and I are excited to work with you and welcome your family into ours!

Please see below the Fees and Funding Policy which provides important information about this provision. I ask you to keep a copy for your future reference and for key contacts which will be helpful.

Key information

The childminding days/hours are Monday to Friday 7.30am – 6.30pm

In this childminding setting you can have access to funding during the term time only which is over 38 weeks

At our setting we use Funding Loop to correspond with parents and Surrey County Council regarding funding which ensures all applications are correctly completed and easy to understand.

Fees and funding

Any optional childcare outside of the funded times, including before 9am and after 3pm, or during the school holidays is charged at my private rate of £9.50 per hour.

Funded Early Education

I am registered with Surrey County Council to offer funded early education. At the beginning of each funded period (term), you will need to complete and sign the Parental Declaration Form to confirm that funded entitlement can be claimed on your behalf, with relevant copies of identification such as birth certificate and passport. In my setting I offer the following entitlements:

Funded Early Education for two-year-olds (FEET)

Eligible families can access up to 15 hours of funded early education and childcare a week. To check eligibility for FEET funding please refer to guidance at

Funded early education for two year olds (FEET) - Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk)

Universal Entitlement (15 hours)

Available for all three- and four-year-olds the term after the child’s 3rd birthday. There are no criteria attached; parents do not need to apply.

Working Parents Entitlement (15 hours)

Available for children from nine months whose family meet specific eligibility criteria regarding their employment status. Children from the term after their 3rd birthday will be able to claim this in addition to the Universal entitlement if they meet eligibility criteria up to a total of 30 hours per week.

From September 2025 - families who meet working parents’ eligibility criteria will be able to claim up to 30 hours a week funded early education from the term after their child turns nine months.

To check eligibility for Working Parents Entitlement please refer to guidance at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.  Parents will need to make an application via childcare choices to ensure eligibility.

Reconfirming Working Parents Entitlement Eligibility Codes.

Parents need to reconfirm that they're still eligible every three months. The Department for Education will send parents a text message and/or email to remind them to reconfirm four weeks before their validity end date and again two weeks before if they still haven't reconfirmed. Please note, the Department for Education will not include a link in their text message or email for parents to click on to reconfirm their code (if parents are sent an email asking them to click on a link to reconfirm it is likely phishing). There should also be a secure message in their Childcare Service Account.

Parents will not get a new eligibility code; they'll just get a new validity end date and grace period end date. Providers do not need to tell Surrey if a parent has re-confirmed their eligibility code.

Early Years Pupil Premium

EYPP provides additional funding to settings to support children’s learning and development. This can be used for extra equipment, resources, or additional training for staff. Your child may be eligible if you are in receipt of some income related benefits or if your child is looked after by the local authority, adopted from care, has left care through a special guardianship arrangement or has left care and is subject to a child arrangement order. Further details and criteria can be found on the webpage here Early Years Pupil Premium - Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk)

If you think you may be eligible, you can use the EYPP application form on page 4 of the parent declaration form. You will be asked to sign this form each funded period in order to access your funded entitlement with your early years provider. All you need to do is fill in this page of the form and I will then process the details. Any information you share will be completely confidential and this will not affect any benefits you receive.

Notice Periods

I require a 4 week notice period at my childminding setting.

There are some exceptions in relation to personal circumstances outlined in the Surrey County Council Provider Agreement, that may require for funding to be released to a new provider. Please speak to myself, Michala Stephens, to discuss in more detail.
